The Chinese have been fantasizing about energy weapons for years. In the 1980s, the Chinese produced their first science fiction movie: Death Ray on Coral Island. The plot is about Chinese scientists who succeeds in creating the “Death Ray.” The good-hearted team of Chinese scientists, are quite enthused with their invention, until the sinister back-stabbing Americans, steal the invention for their evil plots. They use sabotage, death-ray guns, and murder to accomplish their goal. The Chinese fight to prevent their invention from falling into the hands of evil men.
While a 1980s movie about a death ray might seem cheesy, this new laser is anything but cheesy. According the South China Morning Post, China’s new laser assault rifle is able to “burn through clothes in a split second… If the fabric is flammable, the whole person will be set on fire. The pain will be beyond endurance.” The new invention is described as a “laser AK-47.” The beam cannot be seen with the naked eye, but it can set a person’s clothes on fire for up to a half mile away. According to another article, the laser is ready for mass production. It will be distributed to the police department as a non lethal firearm by the Chinese government. The gun will be powered by a rechargeable lithium battery pack akin to those found in smartphones. According to reports from the scientist, no laser can kill with a single shot and its effects may be similar to that of a surgical knife, at the most.
Last point. Many researchers are calling this a huge propaganda hoax. Most physics professors question whether an energy beam could generate that much power. One popular magazine call the story bull crap. According to the article, scientists across the globe are calling bull-crap saying the weapon most likely doesn’t exist. The physics are practically impossible. Realistically, the battery alone would have to weigh several hundred pounds to provide the energy needed to fire a hot laser beam a kilometer.
