Most of the good things that happen to us in life often come as a result of a choice that we made to do better. When I was 40 pounds over weight, I had to make a choice to lose weight or stay the same. Before I could lose 40 pounds, I had to make a mental choice to start going to the gym and eating better. Good changes usually don’t come first. We must first choose. The first thing that I had to choose was to start eating better. This meant that I had to make a conscious choice to stop eating foods that were unhealthy for me. Secondly, I needed to find a workout routine that I could stick to. Third, I chose to get started. Although I made the choice, I still needed to be motivated. That’s where God came in. It was God who led me to the program that was right for me. Let me recommend that you prayerfully consider your choices. I will leave a link for you to consider here: I believe that the 2 week diet is a great place to start! Click: The 2 Week Diet.
“I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live” (Deut. 30:19).
Now obviously the Lord was speaking to Israel; however, the principle is still the same, and is applicable to us today. If you want to live in the blessings of God, you must choose life. This makes me think of a funny but true story about a woman that I know who was in the hospital at the point of death. The doctors literally stopped feeding her and took her off of all life support. The family was gathered around the bed to bid her farewell. The doctors had told us that her body was shutting completely down. They said her liver had stopped functioning and that her disease had progressed to such a point that she would soon die. While in the hospital, someone had whispered to the dying woman, that they had started selling her clothing and furniture. At hearing this the woman became very upset. She struggled to sit up in the bed, got her coat and left the hospital to keep her relatives from selling anymore of her valuables. This is an absolutely true story. This woman is still alive today because she made the choice to live.
In the gospels, Jesus made this quite apparent when he approach the paralytic at the pool of Bethesda. Before healing the man, he asked the man, do you want to be made whole? This sounds like a rather silly question, given the fact that the man had been paralyzed for 38 years. But Jesus understood the power of choosing life. He understood that people can never receive the blessing of God until they choose to do so. This might sound harsh, but often God gives people opportunities to receive blessings everyday that they simply never choose to take.
This is why James made the statement in his epistle, Faith without works is dead. In other words, you can wish and dream for a better future all day long, but it never will happen until you make the choice to take the first step towards the blessings that God has for you. You must choose life. The choice is yours. Click Here: The 2 Week Diet.
