In this article, I would like to discuss Kent Havind and his rejection of the flat earth. Ken Hovend is the a creationist who is very very popular for debunking evolution and what is taught in school textbooks. Kent has been a huge help in the Christian conservative fight to teach creationism in schools. Kent has championed the cause of many issues concerning the Christian right. He is a good man as far as men go. However, Kent is not without his faults. Kent has been known to teach that Dinosaurs were real.
He also has been known to be a critic of the biblical flat earth. Now, Although he is a Christian creationist and teaches from a staunch position of King James only, he still refuses to embrace the ideas of the flat earth; even though the Bible clearly teaches that the earth is immovable, and we live on a flat plane supported by pillars.
At first I thought Kent my be a Free Mason, but then I saw so much of his writings were also dedicated to exposing Free Masons. So, I guess Ken is like so many people who have a faith in God, yet refuse to believe all that the world says.
My question is why do so many Christians refuse to take the word for just what it says. I believe the answer still lies within the deep seated need to hold on to a useless education. People have too much pride to admit that much of what they learned in school is totally useless. After all, they payed so much for it. They spent hours doing homework, attending classes, taking exams and they don’t want to have to go home at the end of the day and admit that more than half of what they learned in school was a total wasted of their time.
Ken Hovend is no different. He attended graduate school and receive a doctorate in theology. Now, his entire identity is wrapped up in who he is as an academic scholar. All the money he paid to have degrees and have people to call him doctor, may have caused him to take his eye off of what it means to pursue truth. I say this as a brother in the Lord and a scholar as well. I know how frustrating it can be to put your entire life into the pursuit of academic prowess, only to discover that most of what you have learned is garbage. This is especially true when it comes to the teaching of our solar system and the globed earth. The idea that we live on a spinning ball, held by an invisible force called gravity is ridiculous. Yet many people believe it.
However, people who embrace the flat earth are usually the kind of people who are seeking the truth despite what they have been taught in the godless public school system. They don’t care what the official narrative is, they simply want to know for themselves. Listen to what the apostle Paul said about this: Phil 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.
Paul is saying that over and above all things that he has been taught, he wants to know the truth. The truth that only Jesus Christ can offer. Jesus said of himself that he is truth. Let us pray for our brother Kent that he may come to the truth as well.
