In Leviticus 10, the bible warns us about Strange Fire. As Christians, we should be on guard against the strange fires of this world.
The strange fires of music, drugs, movies, systems, and pleasures of this world. In Leviticus 10, we have two people who died because they did not decern the holiness of God’s tabernacle.Image

I think this is important because these strange fires that young people are putting into their mouths emphasize the impact that our world is having on uninformed kids. But not only uninformed children, but uninformed Christians as well.

Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to his command (Lev. 10:1)

1 Corinthians 6:19
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.Paragraph

Understanding the context:

To be able to comprehend the term”strange fire,” we have to examine the narrative in Leviticus where it appears. The very first tabernacle was erected, and Aaron had been performing a great deal of forfeiting per God’s instructions (Leviticus 8–9). The Hebrew word translated”odd” means”unauthorized, overseas, or profane.” God not only refused their forfeit; He also found it offensive that He swallowed the two guys with fire.

Following Nadab and Abihu were killed and Moses explained to Aaron why God had done such a brutal thing: “This is what the LORD spoke of when he said:’ Among those who approach me I will show myself holy; in the sight of all of the people I’m honored”’ (Leviticus 10:3). The precise nature of the profane fire is not known, however, because it was the flame which was untrue, it might be the Nadab and Abihu were burning the incense using fire in their own making as opposed to shooting fire from the bible, as stated in Leviticus 16:12. Or it might have been the two guys came to the tabernacle drunk. (Leviticus 10:8–9).

They offered strange fire unto the Lord and did not discern that God is a Holy God.

We live in a society of strange fires. We have award shows with gospel singers sharing the stage with Hollywood celebrities.

We have Christian teen groups being taught about safe sex and handed condoms. We have tobacco companies encouraging children to use e-cigarettes.

Strange Fires

It is important that we understand that we serve a Holy God. He absolutely will not allow us to desecrate our bodies without consequences.

Two things you should know about this:

  1. God wants a clean temple

1 Corinthians 6:19
19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

2. God wants a Holy People.

1 Peter 2:9But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
